Bowen has some of the most beautiful, picture perfect beaches in Queensland. Take a short walk to the Front Beach, or a short drive to discover the other 6 pristine beaches we have to offer. Horseshoe Bay is Bowen’s best known and recognised beach. The beach is protected by two granite outcrops that provide a haven for many fish species and the area is ideal for snorkelling. Other beaches include Grays Bay, Murrays Bay, Kings Beach, Queens Beach and Rose Bay.
Fishing is one of Bowen’s biggest attractions. You can throw in a line from a beach, at a creek, off some rocks or the end of the jetty at the Front Beach. If its deeper water you are after, fishing charters from Ayr or Airlie Beach can take you where the big fish are. Fish in the waters around Bowen include coral trout, barramundi (in season), cod and sweetlip as well as grey, spotted and spanish mackerel.
One thing to keep in mind while fishing around Bowen is the zoning for the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. For more information about zoning, bag limits and size of fish, contact the Queensland Boating and Fisheries Patrol on 4786 3444.
